Hard-fought battle in every game of the deaf curling tournament

The third competition day of the Deaflympics has started with the 4th round of men’s curling tournament.

The most consistent struggle was between the favorites of the tournament – Canada and China. Chinese team defeated Canadians with a minimal score difference – 5:4.

As for other games of the round, Japan beat USA with the score 6:4. This was the third victory of Japanese team in a row. Now they are the main challengers for the medals of the Deaflympics. But to do this they need to show a good play in play-off that starts after the 9th tour.

«We did everything we could and the luck was also on our side. That’s why we won today», – said Japanese player Yunichi Araya.

«This is my first visit to Khanty-Mansiysk. It’s a very beautiful place; I am really impressed by its architecture. I also like the ice arena. The curling sheets are very smooth and good for sliding stones. People that were making it did a good job. It’s such a pleasure to play here», – said Japanese athlete.

60 y.o. curling player from Japan noted that Japan plans to win medals of the Deaflympics in curling. «2 years ago we were participating in the World Deaf Curling Championships that took place in Switzerland and we were 4th. Here we want to be on the podium», – he said.

In other games of the 4th round Switzerland defeat Hungary 9:6, and Ukraine beat South Korea 9:5.
